Cape Town, South Africa is one of the world's most unique cities.

Stand in just one place and it will present you with different faces in every direction you turn. One face will reveal the colonial roots of the modern city with its European architecture and public gardens. Another, will show you unabashedly, the dark legacy of the Apartheid era through impoverished townships and the notorious Robben Island compound. Turn yet again and you will witness the nascent sense of hopefulness, that still pervades this sometimes troubled country, through the smile of a local Khosa street vendor selling Hottentot fresh from the sea. One more turn and you'll easily see why South Africans view Cape Town as the "California" of their country with pleasant weather and a laid back surf culture.

Whichever direction you decide to look you will find a wonderful city teeming with a thousand stories and quite possibly lose your heart in the process.
